Description

This course focuses on the knowledge and skills required for the administration of safe sedation and analgesia within the emergency department. It deals with procedural sedation and control of the agitated/un co-operative adult patient. There is opportunity for discussions around safety, pre-sedation assessment, consent, capacity/competence issues, and applied pharmacology. This course is popular with all levels of trainee, dealing with many of the stressful decisions that need to be made on a night shift!

The high fidelity human patient simulator offers participants the ‘hands on’ opportunity to manage a variety of such clinical challenges in a safe and realistic environment. Video debriefing is facilitated by an experienced faculty of emergency medicine specialists.
