The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course has been developed to provide a standardised training course for all healthcare professionals in assessment and resuscitation of newborn babies. The course will meet the needs of healthcare providers who do not require the more advanced skills provided on the Newborn Life Support (NLS) course or the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). It aims to provide healthcare personnel with assessment and airway management skills to provide effective resuscitation at birth. The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course will also provide a means of standardising in-service education in newborn resuscitation throughout Scotland.
To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to perform resuscitation of the newborn within a safe simulated clinical environment.
Participants will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the physiological processes that can lead to the need for resuscitation of the newborn.
- Practice the immediate care of babies requiring resuscitation at birth and in the first few days of life.
- Acquire practical experience in using neonatal resuscitation equipment.
